I have the bad habit of touching my face and stroking my beard all the time. I haven't smeared poo on my chin yet but I've smeared disgusting things on my visage unintentionally many many times, and I have said those same words.
Seems allegorical to me, somehow. I'll get back to you on what it's allegorical about.
I believe it is an allegory about getting really drunk.
