One of my teachers has this story of an art director that came into work sick because their deadline was approaching. When he went around from cubicle to cubicle looking at everyone's work, he spread his germs and the whole production stopped because everyone got sick. Agreed, it makes me angry when people come into work/school looking like this.
sheesh, when you put it like that I feel quite stupid because I do have this deplorable habit...BUT, we get points taken off our yearly eval for taking sick days! and supposedly, according to the powers-that-be, it's a policy that's legal and has been thoroughly vetted by the lawyers on our library board...what a bunch of @$$holes... htw
Doctors don't get to be sick because we have to care of the sick. Also, in civilian practice at least, no show, no pay. Where I work when someone doesn't show, everyone else has to pick up the slack and like holley t said, it is viewed as a sign of weakness not to show. As an anesthesiologist, if I don't show, people have to wait for their surgeries. I am sure they would say, "Heck, I've got a breathing tube in so you're not going to get me sick so come on in, I don't want to wait." If any of you have an answer I can present that doesn't cost more let me know.
kenny- found this looking for something else, but you're much better than the something else. love the work, hope all's well, peter peter@peterhannan.com
It is sorta a commentary on our Modern American way o' things, that we're worked so hard that we're punished for not comin' in when we're deathly ill (and thus make production go down cuz everybody becomes all loopy and stupid and sick). I met someone from Europe, and she told me we work longggggg-ass hours in America, in comparison.
I try to stay home when I am sick but sometimes (now that I have kids) I get sick more often. So this season I did come in sick a couple of times....the main intent was to show that yes I am sick and someone (like my boss) should suggest that I go home. But, alas, it didn't work out that way.
I searching for a web site that you can enter a message into, and it will mail the offender anonymously with your complaint. I want to send her a "Go home, you are infecting us" email because of all the coughing! (I know the web site exists, I just can't find it!)

I'd like to be that character for Halloween.

The Plague happened because they didn't have sick days off back in the Middle Ages.

OK OK, I should have been more specific.
If you are fortunate enough to work for a company that offers paid sick days, then...etc..
