OK, maybe my finger didn't swell up quite this much, but it sure felt like it did. The color, however, is dead-on!
Gotta be more careful with the hammer.
The good news is that the x-rays didn't show any fractures. It's just a "bad bruise."

is that going to leave a mark? better a hammer than a screwdriver as self-inflicted blunt force injuries go, i suppose.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that painful drawing was, "Poor Kenny! Who punched him in the nose?!"

Are you going to lose the nail? I hope not as they are often a bitch to grow back properly.
My dad used to get injuries like that pretty frequently and would have to poke through the nail with a needle to let the pressure (read: blood) out. Sometimes he lost the nail, most times not though.
I think Sid is correct, you need to start showing that thing off to the world.
