Magic Word

It's a deceptively simple spell. The concept is elementary-- most of us learn it before the age of two. Yet, to this day I still have trouble putting it into practice when I most need it.
This isn't exactly fair, however, because oftentimes the need for a reply of "No" isn't apparent until the cumulative effect of several replies of "Yes" becomes overwhelming.

Hey Kenny can I borrow your car? Could you give me 20 bucks? Can I sleep in your bed while my house is getting painted? Oh can you move your bed to Bob Hope Park while I'm sleeping in it?

Well, OK.

Oh yeah, and can you stay late and plug in the backgrounds on these storyboards that were supposed to get shipped last week?

I don't see why not.

Shit, that's weird; this entry is really similar to a conversation I had right before comin' here. Spooky-ass.

You're just too nice Kenny!

In your mind replace all questions typically inspiring a jaunty 'yesir' with, "Kenny, will you eat this poo please?"
A 'no' should surely follow.....shouldn't it?!!
I say, 'YES". Doh!!!
A trap, another existential gd semantic trap.

preach on brother! that's how I currently find myself petsitting two houses with inside pets, working like a dog with summer reading, and saying "sure, I can do that while you're on vacation," "no problem, you go on and I'll get that handled," "I was going to....but you go ahead, I can get it done later." It's a vicious cycle KP and we must BREAK FREE! For instance, I have now sworn to myself that I will never accept two petsitting jobs at the same time. I'm too old for this $h!t.
