New Friend

Another sad thing about Taffy's disappearance is that he left our other cockatiel, Salty, alone. It's been 3 days now, so we decided to get Salty a companion. We got a really pretty white one (with a little grey on the wings). We don't know if it's a male or female. He/she is pretty nervous about being in a new place, too, but hopefully that will pass soon.
We cerainly aren't replacing Taffy (he is one-of-a-kind, believe me), and we're definitely not giving up on him either. We'll be more than happy to have 3 birds in the house!

Does he/she eat peas? English peas in the pod i mean. Today at Whole Foods i stood before a glorious pile of freshly picked Spring peas sorting through them for the plumpest and most delicious with a woman who was doing the same as i was.....but for her birds to eat. She had one of them represented in lapel-pin form on her lapel.
Surely i enjoyed my peas as much as her birds. Tomorrow i shall eat some for Taffy.

Beautiful drawing! My 2 cents: I never thought for one second you guys were replacing Taffy--I know how much you guys love the little guy. That was nice of you to get a companion for little Salty.

I love your drawing there(ciniq?)...and I'm very sorry about Taffy getting out, darn it. I had a cockatiel for 15 years; he was being bird-sat while I was at college in NY, and once got out at my friends' house, flying to the top of a 50 ft tree in their front yard. They managed somehow to get him down.

Anyway, I'd try hanging up some of those birdseed treat "bells" and whatnots(the really large hanging bird treat things for outdoor birds and also for indoor parrots). There's at least some possibility that Taffy could follow the resulting ruckus back to your house--it happens. If you've ever seen "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill(a doc on wild parrots in S.F.), you'd see that cockatiels can and will join up with other birds...
Congratulations on your new little guy/gal...that's very thoughtful of you to make sure your other bird doesn't get too isolated. Good humans! : )

Sharon, I'm not sure about the peas I'll give 'em a try! I mean, the birds will...

Alex, thank you. It was good talking to you today.

Becky, thanks, you're a good sister!

Jenny, I did do it on the cintiq. I'll try a treat bell. We've got a bird feeder going year 'round, and we put some millet out on the balcony. I'll try anything. And, I really like your drawings!

Dominic, with a hairdo like that, you KNOW they have personality!
